Biographical Note Huange Jie served was a general in the Chinese nationalist army, governor of Taiwan Province, 1962-1969, and minister of defense, 1969-1972. Huang Jie was born in Changsha, Hunan Province. In 1924, he entered the Whampoa Military Academy, becoming one of Chiang Kai-shek's best students and then most trusted military subordinate, participating in the Northern Expedition (1926-28), the Chinese civil war of 1930, th...
